Chapter 1: Rethinking Cooking with Technology

In this article, I aim to present a fresh perspective on the culinary experience. Everyone needs to eat, and my colleagues at Skilled Three and I thought it would be engaging to share our thoughts on the subject. For me, cooking is intrinsically linked to technology, which enhances the enjoyment of the process. You might be surprised to learn that I actually cook quite frequently.

A few years back, I focused on creating a home-based work environment—not due to financial constraints regarding imported food, but because cooking serves as a delightful hobby that allows me to unwind. The foundation of successful cooking lies in selecting quality ingredients.

Shopping for Ingredients

Given my busy lifestyle, I often rely on a fantastic service called Rohlik.cz, which is essentially an online grocery store that delivers selected items right to your doorstep at a convenient time. If you're abroad, you might be more familiar with services like iTesco or similar options. The benefits of using these services extend beyond mere convenience; you can easily save your favorite products and reorder them with just a click. Isn't that convenient?

The Cooking Process

Once I have my ingredients at home, the next step is preparation. I consider myself fairly organized in the kitchen, although my girlfriend might disagree! When I'm ready to cook, I clear my work surfaces and arrange all necessary ingredients, including a variety of spices. It resembles the setup you'd see on a cooking show, where everything is prepped and ready.

I typically start by prepping the ingredients, chopping and cleaning as I go. For packaged items, I try to minimize waste while organizing everything. When it comes to spices, I pull out my marble mortar—surprising, I know, but there's a method to my madness. Cooking should never be rushed; it’s an enjoyable activity that requires time to develop flavors. The marble mortar elevates fresh and dried herbs, making them truly shine.

Embracing Modern Technology

Now, for those of you who stayed with me through the mortar mention, let's discuss how modern technology plays a role in my cooking adventures. Each cooking session is accompanied by my trusty ANC headphones. With the noise from the cooker hood, quality headphones help me focus. But they're not just for blocking noise.

Cooking is a perfect time for work calls or catching up on podcasts and videos. While I'm not keen on watching TV, I often tune into twitch.tv while cooking, enjoying a good laugh and gathering inspiration.

The Joy of Cooking Together

Cooking transforms into a unique experience when I’m with my partner. We’ve been together long enough that we instinctively know who will handle what tasks in the kitchen. There’s a beautiful harmony in our teamwork, even without verbal communication. Instead of headphones, we enjoy music from our HomePod mini, creating an inviting atmosphere.
