Deus Ex Go: Still Enjoyable Despite Shutdown Announcement

Chapter 1: The Status of Deus Ex Go
Deus Ex Go, the acclaimed turn-based puzzle mobile game, remains accessible for those who had previously downloaded it, even after its shutdown on January 4, 2023. For anyone unfamiliar with the situation, the game was part of the franchises acquired by Embracer Group, the Swedish conglomerate, alongside Tomb Raider and The Lord of the Rings.
In November 2022, the gaming world faced significant changes when Embracer announced the closure of Onoma, formerly known as Square Enix Montreal. Alongside this decision, several games, including Arena Battle Champions, Deus Ex Go, Hitman Sniper: The Shadows, and Space Invaders: Hidden Heroes, were slated for shutdown.
According to Onoma, these titles would be removed from Apple's and Google's app stores on December 1, and players would lose access after January 4. This statement raised eyebrows, particularly the line indicating that "current players will not be able to access the games past January 4." This left many wondering about the actual accessibility of games post-shutdown.
However, it seems that this claim does not hold true for Deus Ex Go. As of January 18, I can confirm that the game is still playable on iOS devices. I have been enjoying it on my iPhone XR for several days now, proving that if you have the game installed, you can continue to play without issue.
If you are a player who still has Deus Ex Go on your device, it's advisable not to delete it, as doing so would mean losing access to the game entirely.
The first video provides a retrospective on the game's lasting appeal, highlighting its strengths even after two decades.
Section 1.1: Impact of Onoma's Shutdown
Unfortunately, some features of the game have been affected due to the closure of Onoma. The in-game Shop, where microtransactions were conducted, is no longer operational. Players will encounter a message stating: "Offers failed to load" when attempting to access it. This may not be a significant loss, as microtransactions have often been met with criticism by players.
Additionally, the Live section, which hosted special events and community puzzles, has also been discontinued. The Puzzle Maker, where players could design their own levels, continues to function. However, without server support and an active community, the incentive to create new puzzles has diminished considerably.
Despite these setbacks, the game still boasts over 40 developer-created levels that can keep players engaged. Plus, there's a fun incentive to click the Like button on Facebook for a Golden Crate, which serves as a loot box.
Subsection 1.1.1: The Legacy of the Go Series
Deus Ex Go is among three prominent turn-based puzzle games developed by Square Enix, alongside Hitman Go and Lara Croft Go. While the latter two are still available on digital marketplaces, the fate of Deus Ex Go remains uncertain.
For those interested in the Go series, here are the links to the available games. Act quickly, as their availability could change at any moment.
