# Navigating the Challenges of Scattered Attention

Chapter 1: The Struggle with Focus

Is maintaining focus a struggle for you, much like it is for me? The term "scattered attention" suggests a certain disarray, but does everyone experience it in the same way?

I have numerous metaphorical irons in the fire, including:

  • Collaborating part-time with a remarkable entrepreneur
  • Editing previous work for an editor
  • Working with an exceptional online training company part-time
  • Writing my inaugural sci-fi book
  • Engaging in activities with my medieval reenactment society
  • Developing a Web3/Metaverse gaming project
  • Organizing my first speaking engagement

These endeavors are exhilarating and align with my desired life path. However, my focus tends to be scattered, making it difficult to concentrate.

This becomes particularly frustrating when considering my income. Among these projects, only two provide somewhat reliable payments. The rest are uncertain, and some, like my reenactment activities, yield no financial return.

Like many, I have bills to pay and other financial obligations. As Scrooge McDuck often repeated on DuckTales, “Work smarter, not harder.” While this is wise advice, having scattered attention complicates the ability to work efficiently.

I suspect this resonates with you as well. So, let’s delve into why this happens.

Section 1.1: The Balance of Passion and Profit

As a child, I learned that money is a driving force in the world. The highest earners tend to be doctors, lawyers, and business leaders. This instilled in me the belief that these paths were the best for financial success, while others would face significant challenges.

Despite these societal messages, and my mother's occasional nudges toward law, medicine, and business, I chose a different route. My passions lay in theatre (directing, sound design, acting, and stage management), radio (DJing and production), and writing.

In the arts, I bought into the stereotype of the "starving artist," believing that pursuing a career in any artistic field would yield minimal income—unless, of course, one became an extraordinary success like Bernadette Peters, Howard Stern, or Stephen King.

While I’ve always aspired to reach a comfortable level of success through my art, I continue to wrestle with the idea of choosing between passion and profit. Deep down, I still struggle with the belief that one cannot have both, which contributes to my scattered focus and frustration regarding my earnings.

Could enhanced focus lead to increased income?

Section 1.2: Strategies for Focusing Scattered Attention

I currently juggle seven different projects, all interconnected. However, the question of focus remains significant. My two part-time jobs take precedence, primarily because they provide income and impact more than just myself.

But regarding the rest of my scattered attention, what should I prioritize? Surprisingly, this is simpler than my mind often suggests.

For instance, my Web3 project requires minimal time commitment, and I tend to allocate less time to my reenactment society. I’m nearing the completion of my edits, with writing being a continuous endeavor. Organizing my first speaking engagement offers a chance to unify my efforts.

What will be my speaking topic? Pathwalking. This new perspective on Pathwalking has always intrigued me. It’s never been solely about me; I’ve shared this journey for over a decade, believing it holds value for everyone.

Many individuals grapple with various struggles—some monumental, others less so. However, the desire for kindness, compassion, and care is universal, making the challenges we face relatable.

Equipping ourselves with tools to navigate these challenges is invaluable. This ethos permeates my fiction as well, reflecting the struggles my characters face.

Section 1.3: The Universality of Scattered Attention

I’m not dismissing anyone's mental health challenges. In recent years, I've encountered many individuals diagnosed with adult ADHD, and for some, prescribed treatments have effectively helped them focus their scattered attention.

What if scattered attention is more common than we think? In today’s world, devices intended to connect us have often left us more disconnected, creating distractions that exacerbate scattered focus.

What steps can we take to address this? I believe mindfulness is key—specifically, cultivating conscious awareness of our thoughts, feelings, actions, and intentions. This awareness allows us to check in with ourselves and recognize scattered attention issues.

From this self-awareness, we can foster focus to counteract it. Mindfulness, self-awareness, and intentional reality creation are all integral to my Pathwalking philosophy. While it may not be simple, I find the effort to live this way profoundly rewarding.

It's indeed a challenge, but isn't that what makes life engaging?

Chapter 2: The Evolving Philosophy of Pathwalking

As I continue to grow, so too does my philosophy of life, and I wholeheartedly embrace that.
