If you find yourself in the latter group, know that there is hope. Regardless of how far you may feel you’ve fallen, there’s a path to recovery waiting for you.

Let’s explore how to navigate the weekend in a positive way that sets the stage for a fulfilling recovery. It’s simpler than you think! Yet, it can be challenging, especially if you’ve struggled with the cycle of sobriety and relapse in the past.

Take Action Now

Write down this affirmation, and read it often. Recite it until it becomes a part of your journey toward recovery:

"I am guided by divine wisdom. I have control over my emotions, thoughts, and actions. My true essence is spiritual and whole."

Repeat this affirmation until you feel ready to take further steps on your recovery journey. It may sound easy, but I acknowledge that the path can be tough, especially after years of struggle.

Why Should I Even Bother?

I chose to pursue this path because I became exhausted from feeling unwell. My dedication, combined with a genuine belief in the first three steps of the AA Program, made a difference:

  1. Acknowledging that I am an alcoholic and my life is unmanageable. (Step 1)
  2. Understanding that a Higher Power, whom I refer to as God, has my best interests at heart. (Step 2)
  3. Surrendering my will and life to God and committing to this choice. (Step 3)

One of the many strengths of the AA Program is that the first half of the first step only addresses alcohol. While quitting drinking is vital, it’s merely the starting point. The subsequent steps focus on transforming our mindset, making this program beneficial for everyone, not just those struggling with alcohol.

This is a collective journey. I may stumble, but together, we can achieve sobriety. Thank you, God!
