Unlocking the Secrets to Becoming a Full-Time Creator for Free

Written on

Chapter 1: Tapping into Free Resources

Many individuals are openly sharing insights on how to transition into a full-time creator role without any cost; the key is knowing where to look.

I have never invested in a course about "how to become a writer" or "how to monetize as a creator." The only book I've read on online writing is The Art and Business of Online Writing by Nicolas Cole, and beyond that, my financial outlay for my career has been minimal.

To some, this approach may seem strange. Others might view it as a lack of foresight. While I acknowledge that there may be some truth to that, the reality remains that dedicating a significant amount of time is the most effective way to hone your skills. Remarkably, top creators are generously providing guidance for free; the challenge lies in finding it.

Twitter: The Underestimated Platform

I firmly believe Twitter is an exceptional platform for aspiring content creators to learn how to enhance their craft. Hence, my personal goal for 2022 is to publish three Twitter threads each week. The leading writers in the field are posting even more frequently, and I’m starting with a modest aim—albeit with some nerves.

Prominent Medium writers like Nicolas Cole and Tim Denning share daily tweets about writing strategies and content tips at no cost. There’s no such thing as premium tweets; they freely offer their expertise. If you’re not utilizing Twitter as a knowledge resource, you’re hindering your own progress.

I've recently started following other insightful figures on Twitter, including Naval, Dickie Bush, and Aadit Sheth. The resources available are plentiful; you just need to take advantage of them.

Section 1.1: Understanding the Path to Monetization

Many people express uncertainty about how to earn money as writers. I understand the confusion, especially for newcomers. Initially, the landscape can be perplexing. Aspiring writers often invest in various books and courses, hoping to advance their careers, but these investments yield little if the effort isn’t applied to the craft itself.

The path to monetizing your writing is straightforward but not easy: Write. Publish your work everywhere. Sell it. Build an audience. Continue this cycle—write more, publish more, sell more, grow your audience—until you either succeed or decide to move on. This journey is akin to a marathon rather than a sprint.

Section 1.2: The Long Game of Writing

Making money through writing may be simple, but it’s not immediately clear. You can learn valuable tips from fellow writers, but it’s crucial to understand that your career trajectory will likely differ significantly from those you admire. Relying solely on teaching others to achieve success in writing is an unsustainable model.

This endeavor is a marathon tailored to you. It’s not about the timelines of Stephen King or Tim Denning; it’s your journey. Avoid wasting time on comparisons when you could be creating something unique.

To truly become a professional writer, consistent practice over several years is essential. While there are no guarantees in this field, one certainty is that you will be writing for an extensive period, which is necessary to determine your suitability for this path.

Chapter 2: Free Learning Resources

In the video titled HOW TO BECOME A FULL-TIME CONTENT CREATOR IN 2024, you’ll find valuable insights that emphasize leveraging free resources to kickstart your writing career.

The second video, My 6 Month Plan to Becoming a Full-Time Creator (Step by Step), details a structured approach to transitioning into a full-time creator role, providing practical steps and encouragement.

You don’t need to enroll in expensive writing courses to succeed. While many online courses can be beneficial, you can often find the same information available for free. Podcasts, numerous free ebooks, and email courses abound on the internet.

From my experience as an educator, I can assure you that no one possesses the ultimate secret to writing success. Instead, there are merely tips, tricks, and personal narratives.

It’s still wise to join the email lists of fellow writers, support their endeavors, and explore their free courses. If you genuinely appreciate someone’s work, consider purchasing their products; it’s a matter of courtesy.

In Jiu-Jitsu, I always buy merchandise from a new gym I visit. Similarly, in writing, I support authors I admire by subscribing to their newsletters and purchasing their (non-writing) books.

Ultimately, the keys to thriving as a writer are consistency, authenticity, and collaboration.

Closing Thoughts

Lately, I’ve become increasingly focused on utilizing Twitter as an information hub. If you’re not leveraging Twitter as a writer, you are missing out on valuable insights that would typically come at a cost elsewhere.

Contrary to popular belief, Twitter can be a constructive space. While some may perceive it as chaotic, I’ve tailored my feed to prioritize informative content that enhances my skills as a thinker, content creator, and entrepreneur.

This wealth of information is accessible to everyone without the need for substantial financial investment. Once you’ve established yourself and seek to elevate your skills further, investing in courses or books can be beneficial. However, for beginners, Twitter stands out as the ideal starting point.
