Exploring Space Through Play: Waldorf and Montessori Methods

Written on

Chapter 1: The Foundations of Learning at Home

At three years old, my child is at the perfect age for preschool. We engage in part-time preschooling at a Montessori school, attending half days three times a week. For the remainder of the year, I plan to adopt an unschooling approach. Throughout our home, I've set up various preschool activities that she can explore at her own pace.

One of the standout learning resources is a set of planet-shaped blocks paired with the "Nerdy Baby Space" book, which has quickly become a favorite.

The beauty of these tools lies in their ability to present the planets in a way that's relatable and understandable for her age. We've adorned her walls with various themes, including a space motif. When she first got the space blocks, her interest in the planets and celestial objects on her wall deepened. The blocks are conveniently placed on a shelf within her reach, allowing her to freely play with them and the book whenever she wishes.

We also enjoy a board book about future astronauts. As her curiosity guides her exploration of astronomy, we plan to continually add resources to nurture her interest in this fascinating subject.
