Unlike many billionaires, he didn’t start his journey in tech hubs like San Francisco; instead, he established his company in St. Louis, Missouri. A true self-starter, Steward has built his empire from the ground up without any financial inheritance. Hailing from modest beginnings, he has risen to become one of the most accomplished individuals of the past century.
With a net worth surpassing $5.8 billion, Steward ranks as Missouri's third richest person and is the 182nd wealthiest in the nation. He resides in St. Louis with his wife and two children.

David L. Steward was born on July 2, 1951, in Chicago, Illinois. His father worked as a mechanic, while his mother was a homemaker. Steward grew up in a segregated Southern community, facing significant challenges during his childhood. He recalls, "There was adversity and challenges. It was a very, very difficult time. The one movie theater we couldn't go to, the other one we had to sit in the balcony. We couldn't go roller-skating. We couldn't also go to the swimming pool."
Steward's upbringing in a small rural town in Missouri exposed him to both poverty and discrimination, experiences that profoundly influenced his life.

Steward earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Central Missouri State University in 1973. Following graduation, he relocated to St. Louis, where he made history as the first person of color hired by the Missouri Pacific Railroad. His career began to flourish as he gained valuable experience in various roles.
In 1979, he transitioned to Federal Express as a senior account executive, where he distinguished himself and was awarded the FedEx Salesperson of the Year in 1981.
Section 1.2: Entrepreneurial Ventures
In 1984, Steward took a bold step by purchasing a consulting firm, Transportation Business Specialists, Inc., which focused on auditing and identifying overcharges in the railroad sector. Three years later, he launched another company, Transport Administrative Services, with Missouri Pacific Railroad as its primary client.
In 1990, after accumulating extensive experience, he founded World Wide Technology (WWT). This innovative company specializes in cloud computing, security, mobility, and networking technologies, boasting nearly 8,000 employees and generating annual revenues exceeding $14.5 billion.
Chapter 2: Giving Back to the Community
David L. Steward is not only a successful businessman but also a dedicated philanthropist. Together with his wife, he actively participates in numerous charitable initiatives through the Steward Family Foundation.
In 2018, they made a generous donation of $1.3 million to The University of Missouri-St. Louis. The following year, he contributed $735,000 to a political action committee that mainly supports Republican candidates.
