Chapter 1: Introduction to Kings Island Winterfest

Greetings to all our wonderful supporters! We had the pleasure of attending Kings Island Winterfest on select nights from November 26 to December 31, 2021. This marked our third year participating in this festive event.

As a brief overview for those unfamiliar with our previous blogs, let’s delve into the intriguing history of Kings Island Winterfest and the park itself. Kings Island was envisioned as early as 1964 after a significant flood devastated Coney Island, a well-known amusement park located about 10 miles east of downtown Cincinnati along the Ohio River. This flood, which submerged the area under more than 14 feet (4.3 m) of water, was the fourth highest recorded and inflicted considerable damage on the park, which had already been facing challenges with limited expansion and parking space.

In July 1969, Taft Broadcasting Company acquired Coney Island for $6.5 million and subsequently purchased 1,600 acres (650 ha) in Warren County, Ohio, for $3.2 million. As of 2005, Kings Island retained ownership of 773 acres (313 ha) from this acquisition. Kings Island Winterfest, which operates from late November through December, made its debut in 1982. Originally, the festival ran for a decade, was rebooted in 2005 for a single year, and after a lengthy 12-year break, it made a triumphant return in 2017.

In our quest to enhance our experience, we are currently looking for a 15-passenger van to transport our gear. We've launched a Ko-fi Page to help gather support from fans of our work. Our goal is to raise $5,000 for the van, especially since my car broke down on the way back from a show.

Setup for Kings Island Winterfest began on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving. We arrived at the park at 3 PM and managed to complete 80% of our setup. We wrapped everything up on Black Friday afternoon, which was quite a busy day. The event featured a fantastic array of vendors showcasing incredible talent, and Kings Island Winterfest continued to be a successful show for us following a strong October.
