Mastering Taco Geometry: Slice Your Wrap into 8 Equal Parts

Understanding the Taco Wrap Puzzle
Who doesn’t enjoy a delicious taco from time to time? Here’s a fun mathematical challenge for all taco enthusiasts.
Imagine you have a circular taco wrap, and your goal is to split it into 8 equal segments with just a single cut. How would you approach this task?
I suggest pausing here, grabbing a pen and some paper, and attempting this puzzle yourself. Once you're ready, continue reading for the solution!
Solution Unveiled
Believe it or not, the solution is more straightforward than it seems. Regardless of how you rotate a circle around its center, its shape will remain unchanged.
To achieve that perfect cut, we need to fold the taco wrap in half three times.
1st fold: transforming the circle into a semi-circle.
2nd fold: changing the semi-circle into a quarter circle.
3rd fold: converting the quarter circle into an octant.
I must confess, I did some research to find the correct term for one-eighth of a circle. Did you know that?
Now comes the exciting part. (Though we don’t want to unfold the wrap just yet!)
We will make a cut down the center of the folded octant.
When we unfold the octant, voilà! We have 8 equally sized taco wraps!
Just like that, we can share the taco with 8 friends—or just 6 others if we count you and me (1 + 1 = 2).
And that's how we solve this puzzle!
