I began writing because I was an avid reader—my collection of business books, philosophical texts, and classic novels is overflowing, each filled with notes and sticky tabs. Writing was a natural next step.

How do you engage in your downtime? Are you excited about your workouts? Do you dream of new dinner recipes? Perhaps you have a hobby like collecting sports cards? Keep a journal to track your daily activities; they often lead you to your true passion.

Section 1.2: Research Your Interests

A simple Google search can open up a world of possibilities. Type in "I’m interested in (your passion), how can I earn money?" It’s as straightforward as that. For years, I passively blogged without realizing the vast opportunities available for writers online. I stumbled upon platforms like Medium.com, where you can submit articles to various publications, and Substack, which allows you to monetize newsletters through subscriptions. All of this knowledge was just a quick search away.

Take a few minutes to explore your interests online or connect with someone already succeeding in that space. This small initiative can lead to a myriad of new opportunities.

Section 2.1: Learning and Growth

I was an enthusiastic reader, but that didn’t automatically make me a great writer. What did I do? I sought wisdom from experts. I invested in Tom Kuegler’s Medium Mastery course and devoured "The Art and Business of Writing Online" by Nicolas Cole. I closely analyzed Tim Denning's writing techniques. Though I had discovered my passion, I realized I needed to develop my skills to attract paying clients.

Thus, I returned to learning, dedicating myself to improving my craft.

Section 2.2: Time Management

The reality is, pursuing something meaningful demands significant time and effort. Juggling a side hustle alongside a 9-to-5 job can be challenging, as both require your full attention. I established a routine that allowed me to balance both commitments. Recognizing that I was most creative in the mornings, I adjusted my schedule to wake up at 4:30 am to read and write before my day job.

You can find time for what matters to you, even if you believe you're too busy.

Section 2.3: Commitment to the Process

Allow yourself a three-month period to adjust to your new venture. Starting a side hustle is akin to entering a new relationship; it comes with a mix of emotions—from excitement and anxiety to joy and fear. Initially, I experienced all these feelings as I dove into writing. Over time, I settled into a routine, recognizing that successes and setbacks were all part of the journey.

Building a side hustle is about nurturing a new relationship in your life, which takes time and understanding. If it’s meant to flourish, it will.
