Taking a Break from Facebook: My Two-Month Journey
Written on
Chapter 1: The Struggles of a Facebook Addict
Once upon a time, I was a Facebook addict. I had attempted to quit the platform briefly, but only a week into my “Facebook Detox,” I found myself anxious. I would wonder what my friends were up to, what the latest trends were, and how my posts were performing.
About two months ago, possibly inspired by watching “The Social Dilemma,” I decided it was time for a more extended hiatus. I recognized that Facebook was consuming too much of my focus, especially during a critical phase of my PhD studies. I also noticed an increase in my jealousy when I saw friends posting pictures of what seemed like perfect lives. The incessant notifications also became a source of irritation.
I realized I needed a break.
Yet, I couldn’t just quit entirely. As the Public Relations head for a student organization, I had responsibilities on our Facebook page. How could I balance that and maintain my sanity?
Section 1.1: Finding a Solution
The answer was straightforward. I deactivated my account and enlisted the help of other club members to manage our posts. Occasionally, I would log in briefly to share a flyer I had created, then log out again. Did this method prove effective?
Yes and no. Although I steered clear of Facebook, my yearning for connection drove me to become more active on Twitter. Fortunately, the #AcademicTwitter community provided a sense of camaraderie. That feeling of frustration after a tough meeting? Others have experienced it. That moment of triumph when an experiment succeeds? A reason to celebrate together!
Subsection 1.1.1: Embracing a New Community
While it may seem like I’ve isolated myself, I’ve found a reasonably safe bubble to inhabit. Could I completely escape the surrounding drama? Not entirely. Information sharing across multiple platforms meant that some of the Facebook chaos seeped into my other social media outlets like WhatsApp, Twitter, and Instagram. However, over time, I began to care less and less about it.
Section 1.2: The Impact of My Decision
Would I continue this approach? Most likely! I’ve discovered a level of tranquility that I didn’t have before. Yes, I’ve missed some memorable moments in my friends’ lives, but those who truly wish to connect will reach out, whether through a call or a simple text message.
Now, should you consider doing the same?
Chapter 2: Weighing the Pros and Cons
The video titled "Facebook Disabled My Account. Here's How I Got It Back 25 Hours Later (2021) - YouTube" explores the nuances of dealing with Facebook account issues and how to navigate them successfully.
Pros:
- Greater peace of mind
- Less unnecessary drama
- More time for real-life experiences
Cons:
- Missing out on significant moments
- Losing touch with friends
- Not being able to enjoy all the cute otter videos!
For me, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Your experience may differ (after all, who can resist adorable otter videos?).
In conclusion, the decision to quit or not is entirely yours, dear friend! Thank you for your support, and have a wonderful day!
