Chapter 1: Understanding Your Goals

It’s crucial to identify what drives you—whether it’s passion, financial success, or fame. This clarity will determine how far you can go without exhausting your tenacity.

Allow me a moment to share a tale with you. One day, while strolling down the street, I noticed a man gazing upward, visibly agitated as he muttered curses. His focus was on the top of a nearby building.

Curious, I approached him and asked, “What’s bothering you?” He responded, exasperated, “That guy up there!” while shielding his left eye.

Intrigued, I ventured towards the building to understand the source of his frustration. Upon reaching the roof, I found the door locked. After knocking three times, the door swung open, and out of nowhere, I was met with a punch to the face.

“Ouch! My eye!” I exclaimed, clutching my face in pain. I returned to the street and stood beside the man who had been cursing, now sharing his frustration.

The lesson in this fictional scenario is that we often absorb the grievances of others, especially on platforms like Medium. However, when we delve deeper, we often find ourselves impacted in similar ways, leading us to understand the root of those complaints.

Let me pose a question: Why are we here? Or rather, why do we invest all our resources in a single venture? Each platform is designed not only to enrich us financially but also to foster our growth.

The time you dedicate to these platforms and the insights you gather from your endeavors ultimately contribute to your personal development. I am thankful to have discovered this space, as my initial objectives have evolved, leading me to join the Medium Partner Program (MPP).

I perceive this platform as a stepping stone that demands effort for upward mobility. Over time, I’ve come to view it as an escalator, where my hard work translates into financial returns. Although it hasn’t yet freed me from my 9 to 5 job, when combined with other platforms, they collectively form the ladder to my success.

Platforms frequently modify their rules, often without warning. These changes aim to attract more users and generate revenue. Complaining about it achieves nothing; in fact, it can taint the community.

The truth is, even lottery players invest significant sums in hopes of winning. As Tim Denning emphasizes, we must invest our time to eventually reclaim it.

My primary focus remains on daily writing practice. This consistent effort is a reliable vessel for my aspirations, as I firmly believe in the potential for significant growth.

I’ve discovered that a writer’s mindset centers around regular practice. Following this principle has allowed me to explore and articulate my thoughts, enriching my life even if I haven’t yet attained substantial financial rewards.

Reading has expanded my horizons more than ever, enhancing my mental flexibility and restoring a sense of clarity. For this, I am immensely grateful to both writing and reading.
